Vascular Surgery is a new surgical specialty in the UK, having evolved from the General Surgery training programme. During recent years, and in common with many other disciplines, there has been a trend towards further specialisation within General Surgery, leading to the development of Vascular Surgery as a separate stand-alone specialty.

Trainees in Vascular Surgery will undergo core training (CT1-2) followed by a period of 6 indicative years of specialty training (ST3-ST8). The purpose of this curriculum is to train vascular surgeons up to CCT level who will be able to work independently and to the standard of a consultant or equivalent.

The Training Programme Director for Vasuclar Surgery is Mr. Andrew Stewart.
