National SuppoRTT Guide: Return to training (COVID-19)
Supported Return to Training (SuppoRTT) is a funded initiative from Health Education England, which offers help to trainees who have been out of training for three or more months, to enable a safe, confident and structured return to work.
In the context of the NHS efforts against the COVID pandemic, we have been contacted by many trainees who were due to return to work soon, or those who are looking at returning early. This in no way constitutes official advice to end your leave or to return early; but will hopefully help those who are returning now.
Where face to face training may be cancelled, there is a lot of material online which you can access remotely. Below you will find some relevant information in this guide: preparing ahead for SuppoRTT meetings, clinical updates, COVID19 resources and links for training and recruitment updates. We will also be sending a list of remote learning resources for basic and generic skills which can be accessed from home soon.
We appreciate that this uncertain time may provide added challenges on top of those which accompany any return to training, and we want you to know that we are in your corner and working to help you as a doctor who can make a difference in these unprecedented events. We will update you if there are changes to the National and Local SuppoRTT Programme or process as a result of the pandemic, as soon as we find out.

The SuppoRTT Pre-Return Meeting remains important particularly in terms of accessing funding for supernumerary periods and helping trusts cover the costs towards this, under pandemic strain.
Supervisors will be time pressured due to clinical duties and we suggest that you prepare for the meeting in advance. Here are some useful videos about the meeting, which can help you plan:
