Overview
A one-day hands-on practical trauma skills course. Features:
- Expert faculty of military and civilian trauma surgeons
- Small group hands-on practice using fresh cadaveric animal and human tissue
- State-of-the-art wet lab facility
- Aimed at CT2 – ST8 trainees in general or vascular surgery
Learning objectives-knowledge:
- Damage control resuscitation & surgery
- Role of the Trauma Team
- Management of the critically ill trauma patient
- Blunt & penetrating thoracic, abdominal & junctional zone trauma
Learning objectives-practical skills
- Thoracotomy & sternotomy
- Repair of cardiac injuries
- Hilar control & pulmonary injuries
- Trauma laparotomy & aortic control
- Visceral rotation
- Solid organ injury
- Packing & temporary closure
