Bowel Anastomosis Workshop

For Core and ST3 surgical trainees
Overview
A half day afternoon course using animal specimens led by Consultant and Senior Registrar faculty with specific expertise in this area. Designed to bring trainees directed teaching with a 1:2 ratio to help them prepare for general surgery attachments and develop anastomotic skills.
Topics will include:
- Principles of GI anastomosis
- Anastomotic leak
- Hand-sewn small bowel anastomosis
- Hand-sewn ‘ileocolic’ anastomosis
- Stapled ‘ileocolic’ anastomosis
Requirements
The only requirement is that trainees have passed the RCS Basic Surgical Skills Course and are competent in performing hand ties.
