Overview

This course is aimed at aimed at Surgical Trainees (CT3 – ST6) and SAS grades, the purpose of this course is to consolidate your knowledge and develop your practical skills in casting using Plaster of Paris and lightweight materials.

The course is led by Sue Miles (the National Casting Training Advisor for BOA,) and supported by her highly experienced casting team.

After an introductory lecture, the programme for the day is hands-on with workshops on upper limb and lower limb full casts and back slabs.

Participants will work in small supervised groups to enable as much practice and personal feedback as possible.

Course Director

Sue Miles BSc, RGN.ONC. Orth Tech Cert. Mrs Miles is the National Casting Training Advisor for the British Orthopaedic Association. She qualified in Orthopaedic Nursing at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and General Nursing at University College Hospital. She has over thirty five years’ experience in casting with twenty five of those devoted to teaching the subject. She instigated and still organises and runs the British Casting Certificate courses and the examinations. In addition, she works as an independent casting nurse specialist applying casts to patients.

 

Cost

The course fee is £165. This is inclusive of course materials, lunch and refreshments.

Please note that the course is limited to 24 delegates, so early booking is advised. Of note: For the workshops, participants will need loose clothing as all will act as ‘cast models’ (ideally T-shirts and shorts)
