Overview

An exciting course (for medical students, foundation doctors and core surgical trainees) developed by the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland which aims to:

  • provide an overview of the work undertaken by vascular surgeons
  • expose participants to some of the basic skills required to be a vascular surgeon 
  • outline potential career paths to succeed in vascular surgery

 
Learning outcomes. At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Describe a typical vascular surgeons workload
  • Recognise what is required to facilitate selection onto a vascular surgical training programme
  • Appreciate some of the psychomotor skills necessary to become a vascular surgeon

10.15-12.15 Introduction to the common conditions

  • Aortic Surgery
  • Carotid Surgery
  • Lower Limb disease
  • Venous Surgery

12.15-13.00 Lunch

13.00 -15.00 Practical sessions:

  • Station 1 – Open surgery – arteriotomy closure
  • Station 2 – Ultrasound 
  • Station 3 – Interventional radiology - angiomentor

15.00-15.20 Tea
